Leaving Qatar Checklist
Work through the ordered steps people actually forget when leaving Qatar: HR clearance, gratuity, notice pay, visa cancellation, utilities, deposit, tickets and school papers.
Calculate your estimate
Ordered personal checklist only; this is not a legal clearance, an exit permit, or a final settlement statement
On supported formula tools, valid inputs refresh the estimate automatically. Use Calculate estimate to review it again.
Saved estimates stay only in this browser on this device. Nothing is sent to Gulf Expat Tools. Save up to five named estimates per tool.

Scope of this calculator
Scope in
- The order of the steps most departing residents need to close.
- Deep links to the Qatar gratuity, notice-period and Kahramaa planners for the money parts.
- Optional outstanding-utility and deposit amounts you enter yourself.
Scope out
- Any exit permit, cancellation approval or clearance decision, which the Ministry of Interior and your sponsor control.
- Your final settlement amount — use the gratuity and notice tools for those estimates.
- Bank, loan and travel-ban status, which only your bank and the authority can confirm.
- School, landlord and airline policies, which vary by provider.
Worked example
Leaving with children, an outstanding Kahramaa bill of QAR 450 and a tenancy deposit of QAR 6,000 entered: the checklist returns the eight ordered steps, flags the school leaving certificate as a step you must not skip, and shows the two amounts you entered as open items to close before departure. It does not tell you that you are cleared to leave.
Mini-example: with no kids and nothing outstanding entered, the tool still returns all core steps, because HR clearance and visa cancellation are not optional.
How this calculator works
The tool returns a fixed ordered list of exit steps and marks the optional amounts you entered as open items: job exit and HR clearance, gratuity estimate, notice pay, visa cancellation and exit with the Ministry of Interior, utilities and Kahramaa closure, tenancy deposit release, tickets, and a school leaving certificate when you have children. Nothing here is a clearance and no settlement total is computed.

Common questions
Short answers for using this tool responsibly.
Is this an exit permit or clearance?
No. It is a personal ordered checklist. Visa cancellation and exit handling sit with your sponsor and the Ministry of Interior, and nothing on this page grants permission to leave.
Where do I get my gratuity and notice figures?
Use the Qatar gratuity calculator and the Qatar notice period calculator linked in the checklist steps. This page deliberately does not repeat those formulas.
What about my Kahramaa account?
Close the electricity and water account and settle the final bill before handover. You can size the expected amount with the Qatar Kahramaa bill planner, then confirm the closing balance with Kahramaa.
Do I need a school leaving certificate?
If you have children in school, request the leaving or transfer certificate early, because the next school usually asks for it and requirements vary by school and destination country.
How do I get my tenancy deposit back?
Give notice as your contract requires, agree the condition of the unit in writing, settle utilities, and ask for the deposit release in writing. Deposit practice is a market matter, not a fixed rule this tool can decide.
When should I book flights?
Only after your last working day, cancellation sequence and any dependant timing are clear, because changing tickets is usually more expensive than booking a little later.
Do you need an exit permit to leave Qatar?
Usually, no general exit permit is required. Qatar’s Government Communications Office says the exit-permit requirement for residents seeking to leave the country was abolished. That is separate from cancelling or transferring a residence permit, receiving your employment settlement, and checking whether an individual travel restriction or special leave-notification record applies to you.
1. Close the employment record
- Get your final working day, handover and employer clearance in writing.
- Check salary, unused benefits, gratuity and any confirmed notice compensation before signing a settlement.
- Use the Qatar final-settlement planner and notice-pay calculator as estimates only; the contract, law and competent authority control.
2. Confirm the residence record
- Ask the sponsor or authorised representative when cancellation or transfer will be filed, including each dependant record.
- Keep the cancellation receipt and confirm the status through the MOI Residence Permit inquiry.
- Do not rely on a generic grace-period number: follow the effective date and deadline shown in your MOI/Metrash record.
3. Separate travel permission from cancellation
- Most residents should not treat employer permission as a general condition for departure.
- The MOI Exit–Entry service still lists leave-notification inquiries and travel permits for specific records and cases.
- If your role, legal case or MOI record is exceptional, verify the individual result rather than assuming the general rule applies.
4. Close balances and collect proof
- Check traffic fines, bank or loan obligations, Kahramaa and telecom balances.
- Get tenancy inspection, key handover and deposit recovery terms in writing.
- Collect employment, medical, school-transfer and dependant documents before accounts or access are closed.
Before booking a non-refundable flight
Confirm the last working day, the residence-cancellation sequence for you and your dependants, and any individual MOI restriction or notification. Then close utilities and housing near the confirmed departure date. A booking API, employer message or this checklist cannot prove that you are cleared to travel.
