For a KAHRAMAA move-out in Qatar, ask for settlement of the correct premises account, check the final meter-based bill, and confirm how your recorded deposit will be handled. Keep the clearance certificate and the refund confirmation separately: paying a bill does not, by itself, show that the account is closed or that a refund has arrived.

Start with the account you are actually closing
Find the premises electricity number, account holder’s name and the deposit receipt or account record. Match these to the property you are leaving. A landlord’s rental security deposit is a separate item; do not add it to your KAHRAMAA balance.
If utilities are included in your rent or the account is held by your employer or landlord, first establish who is authorised to settle that account and who paid its deposit. This guide’s examples assume a recorded refundable deposit on a postpaid account. They do not establish the treatment of prepaid credit or an account held by someone else.
What the official sources establish
KAHRAMAA’s account-closure FAQ describes presenting the original deposit receipt, disconnecting supply, taking final meter readings and settling the resulting dues. It says a customer can request deduction of the dues from the deposit, or pay the dues separately before reimbursement is arranged. It then describes issuing clearance for the closed account.
The FAQ uses customer-service-office wording. Confirm the current submission channel and required documents for your account before making a trip. If the original deposit receipt is missing, ask KAHRAMAA which replacement evidence it accepts; do not assume a screenshot is sufficient.
Hukoomi’s account-closure listing, published in 2021 and still accessible when checked, lists an email request to customercare@km.com.qa naming the account. It also lists 991 within Qatar and +974 4449 4000 from abroad for assistance. KAHRAMAA’s short Account Deactivation page also mentions email. These short descriptions do not say that sending an email completes final billing, deposit reimbursement and clearance. Ask specifically for move-out/account settlement for your premises.
ORIGINAL PROCESS DIAGRAM · QATAR
From move-out request to two final records
- 1 · Confirm the premises and request
Identify the account, planned handover and settlement reference. - 2 · Check the final reading and bill
Compare the closing statement with payments already made. - 3 · Reconcile the deposit
Was the final bill deducted, or did you pay it separately?
Keep confirmation for the closed account and correct premises.
Check the amount and actual receipt through the agreed method.
Two records, two checks. This diagram does not promise that clearance and refund receipt happen on the same day. The text below provides the same steps and examples.
A worked example: avoid deducting the bill twice
Synthetic example only: suppose your account shows a refundable deposit of QAR 2,000 and verified final dues of QAR 475, with no other adjustments. These figures are invented for arithmetic; QAR 2,000 is not a claim about the deposit required for every account.
| How the final bill is settled | Deposit calculation | Balance to reconcile |
|---|---|---|
| KAHRAMAA deducts QAR 475 from the deposit | 2,000 − 475 | QAR 1,525 |
| You pay QAR 475 separately and it is posted to the account | 2,000 − 0 | QAR 2,000 |
In the second case, subtracting QAR 475 again would count the same bill twice. In both cases your net position is the same: QAR 1,525 after the QAR 475 cost. The amount returned from the deposit differs because one route includes a separate payment.
If a statement instead shows QAR 2,150 of final dues against a QAR 2,000 deposit, deduction would leave QAR 150 payable, not a refund. Use the actual settlement statement and confirm how any other credits, unpaid charges or adjustments are treated.
Keep three records, not just a payment screenshot
- Final bill or closing statement
- Check the account, premises, final-reading period, charges, previous payments and remaining balance.
- Clearance certificate
- Check that it identifies the closed account you intended to settle. Do not use a certificate for a different property as your move-out record.
- Refund confirmation and receipt
- Match the amount and method agreed with KAHRAMAA to the money actually received. A request reference or a cleared bill does not show receipt of funds.
The official bill-payment service looks up bills using account identifiers and a verification step. It is useful for checking payment information; it is not a substitute for asking whether your move-out has been completed.
Before handover: a short checklist
- Match the account and premises; save your deposit evidence.
- Keep access to your registered contact details while the request is open.
- Coordinate the requested disconnection with cleaning and handover so you do not assume the supply will remain available.
- Save the settlement request reference and the date of each response.
- Ask which refund method is available and what evidence it requires before changing any account you expect to receive the refund.
- Save the final statement, clearance and refund receipt together.
Provide identity documents or banking information only through a channel you have verified directly with KAHRAMAA. This page has no form for collecting them.
What if the refund has not arrived?
First identify the unfinished stage. Is the final reading outstanding? Is a payment missing from the statement? Has reimbursement been arranged but not received? A specific question is easier to resolve than asking only whether the account is “done”.
The official closure sources reviewed here do not establish one guaranteed number of days for every refund. Ask KAHRAMAA for the applicable processing time and follow-up route for your request and refund method. Do not plan around a fixed deadline from an unrelated utility or an older third-party guide.
I requested settlement for my premises account on [date], reference [reference]. Please confirm whether the final readings and bill are complete, whether my payment has been posted, how the deposit is being reconciled, and whether clearance and the refund have been issued. If anything is outstanding, please tell me the document or action needed and the expected next step.
Fill in that message privately when contacting the verified official service; do not post your account number publicly.
Moving within Qatar or leaving the country?
For a move within Qatar, ask KAHRAMAA how the old account settlement relates to the new premises. Do not assume a new connection automatically closes the old account or transfers its deposit.
For the wider departure tasks, use our Leaving Qatar checklist. If you only want a consumption estimate before the final statement, the KAHRAMAA bill planner uses the average electricity rate you supply; it does not retrieve an official final bill or determine your deposit refund.
