Qatar Family Visa Salary (QAR 10,000 / 6,000 Rule)

If you work in Qatar and want your spouse or children to live with you, Interior starts with your file: profession class on the Qatar ID, the basic salary that actually moves through the Wage Protection System, and whether your employer has recorded family housing on the electronic contract. Get those three right and the rest is slow but predictable. Get them wrong and Metrash keeps bouncing the same application.

I am Shekh Firoj. We run Gulf Expat Tools from Qatar as an educational workshop, not a government desk. The figures below are the private-sector path residents and MOI service pages commonly describe. Confirm them in live Metrash before you pay or book flights. We are not a filing portal, and we do not issue visas.

The salary rule people actually mean

For a private-sector sponsor, the family-residence path is commonly described in two ways:

a basic monthly salary of QAR 10,000, or

a basic monthly salary of QAR 6,000 plus family housing that the employer provides and that is written into the electronic employment contract.

Those two routes are not interchangeable. A cash housing allowance that lands in your bank account is not employer-provided family housing. If the contract says QAR 6,000 basic plus QAR 4,000 allowance, adding them and calling it QAR 10,000 does not put you on the reduced-threshold path. That path is a company that actually houses the family and can prove it in the e-contract.

Government and semi-government files can be worded differently. Do not copy a private-sector checklist onto a ministry contract. Open the family-residence service in Metrash and read the eligibility screen for your employer type.

Basic salary, not a homemade total

When residents say “QAR 10,000”, they mean basic salary as Interior and Labour see it, not overtime, allowances, and a bonus added together. WPS is the practical test. The Ministry of Labour, with Qatar Central Bank, uses the Wage Protection System so contracted wages paid through approved banks can be matched to the labour file. If the contract says 10,000 and recent WPS transfers show 8,500, the lower number is what the system believes.

A fresh salary certificate on letterhead is weaker than a clean WPS history. Ask payroll which basic-pay field they submit. If you just raised basic by cutting allowances, wait until the new figure has actually transferred.

Profession class is not a footnote

Salary is only half of the private-sector test. Your Qatar ID profession needs to sit in a technical or specialised, non-labour class. Drivers, general labourers, and domestic-category jobs are the examples people quote as blocked, even when take-home looks high. Interior reads the QID label, not your LinkedIn title. If the QID still shows a labour-class profession, fix the labour and immigration file first.

What “employer-provided family housing” has to look like

On the QAR 6,000 route, three things usually have to be true at once:

1. The employer supplies housing that is suitable for a family, not a bachelor bed-space. 2. That housing is recorded in the electronic employment contract, not only mentioned in a WhatsApp from HR. 3. You can produce whatever supporting letter or compound allocation Interior asks for on the day you apply.

A lease in your own name, even if the company reimburses you, is still your lease. A cash allowance is still cash. Neither converts a QAR 6,000 basic into the reduced path. If you are on a cash allowance, plan against QAR 10,000 basic unless HR puts genuine family housing on the e-contract.

Documents that stall files more than salary does

Salary and profession decide whether the service opens. Documents decide whether it finishes. For a spouse you typically need an attested marriage certificate; for children, attested birth certificates. Attestation means the chain your embassy and the Qatari authorities currently accept — not a scan from a wedding album. Names must match passports; fix spelling on the civil record before you upload. Police-clearance papers are often requested for older dependants. Upload what the live Metrash form asks for. Do not invent extra certificates from a 2019 forum thread.

After approval: medical, residence permit, QID

Family residence is not finished when the entry visa is issued. The dependant still has to enter, complete the medical Interior requires for their age, give biometrics where asked, and collect the residence permit and Qatar ID. Those steps have their own fees, and those fees change. We will not print a homemade fee table. Blogs disagree, and Interior can update the payment screen overnight. Confirm medical, RP, and QID charges in Metrash (many residents still say Metrash2) or at an MOI centre on the day you pay.

How to sanity-check your file before you apply

Use this as a personal review, not as Interior’s form.

| Check | What “ready” usually looks like | What fails quietly |

| — | — | — |

| Basic salary | WPS transfers match a basic of QAR 10,000, or QAR 6,000 with employer family housing on the e-contract | Adding a cash housing allowance to reach 10,000; one strong month after several weak ones |

| Profession | QID shows a technical / specialised non-labour class | Labour-class profession with a high take-home |

| Housing (6,000 route only) | Employer-provided family unit, written into the electronic contract | Personal tenancy plus reimbursement; bachelor accommodation |

| Relationship papers | Attested marriage and birth certificates; names match passports | Unattested scans; spelling mismatches |

| Sponsor status | Valid QID and residence; employer file in good order | Expired QID, blocked company, missing e-contract |

Run the same facts through our Qatar family residence readiness checker. It is a structured estimate, not an MOI decision and not a place to submit documents.

What we will not do

We will not quote a guaranteed approval, a processing-day promise, or a fee that is not on the government screen. File in Metrash or at an MOI centre. Use our checker only to see whether salary, housing, profession, and documents are in the right neighbourhood.

If numbers conflict — a friend who got through on QAR 8,000, HR that treats allowance as basic, a blog with an older threshold — the live official service is the tie-breaker. Confirm on portal.moi.gov.qa, Hukoomi, and Metrash. Parent sponsorship and adult children sit on extra conditions; do not assume the QAR 10,000 / 6,000 story covers them.

FAQ

Does QAR 6,000 plus a cash housing allowance qualify? Not on the reduced-threshold path commonly described. That path is employer-provided family housing on the contract. A cash allowance is usually assessed against QAR 10,000 basic. Confirm in the live service.

Is the salary check on the offer letter or on WPS? Both, and WPS is harder. A letter that does not match transfers is a weak file.

Can a labour-class profession sponsor family if salary is high? The private-sector path is commonly described as a technical or specialised non-labour profession. High salary does not reliably override a labour-class QID.

Do marriage and birth certificates need attestation? Yes, in ordinary cases, through the chain Qatar currently requires, with names identical to passports.

Where do I pay medical, RP, and QID fees? In Metrash or at an MOI counter, at that transaction’s step. Fees change; the app is the amount you pay.

Can I convert a family visit visa to residence without leaving? Practice has been strict, and unofficial guides disagree. Confirm the current rule in Metrash and on the MOI portal before you book.
