Identify the document’s issuing-country route first
UAE attestation is a document-authenticity process, not a general approval check. The required route depends on where the document was issued, its type and the authority that will receive it in the UAE.
Typical sequence for a document issued outside the UAE
- Start with authentication by the competent authorities in the document’s issuing country.
- Complete the UAE embassy or consulate attestation stage in that country where the route requires it.
- Complete the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stage in the UAE using the current approved channel.
- Check whether translation, the receiving authority, a courier route or a document-specific condition changes the required sequence.
What MoFA confirms
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs describes attestation as certification of the authenticity of signatures and seals on eligible documents issued inside or outside the UAE. The Ministry accepts eligible personal and commercial documents, but the exact route is determined by document type and issuing country.
