Scope of this calculator
Scope in
- Full-time private-sector workers cashing unused annual leave at the end of employment.
- Basic wage only, used to build the daily rate.
- Two-days-per-month accrual after six months, and pro-rata 30-day accrual after a completed year.
Scope out
- Government employees and domestic workers.
- Part-time and flexible-contract accrual patterns.
- Carry-forward rules, approved leave records and payroll rounding used by your employer.
- Sick leave, maternity leave and other leave types that are not annual leave.
Worked example
Basic wage AED 6,000, service 2 years, 20 annual-leave days already taken. This tool follows the convention used in its own script: after a completed year accrual is service days divided by 365 multiplied by 30, unused days are accrual minus days taken, and the daily rate is the basic monthly wage divided by 30. That gives about 60 accrued days minus 20 taken = 40 days x 200 = about AED 8,000 as an estimate.
Mini-example: below the six-month threshold the tool returns a manual-review message rather than an amount.
How this calculator works
For a worker with more than six months and less than one year, leave accrues at two days per month. After a completed year, the calculator uses a pro-rata 30-day annual entitlement and basic-wage daily rate.

Common questions
Short answers for using this tool responsibly.
Is UAE leave salary based on basic wage or total salary?
Encashment of unused annual leave is calculated on the basic wage, so allowances are excluded from the daily rate used here; confirm against your contract and the cited source.
How does annual leave accrue in the first year?
Between six months and one completed year leave accrues at two days per month, and this tool applies that shorter scale before switching to the 30-day annual basis; confirm against your contract and the cited source.
Can unused leave be carried forward instead of paid?
Carry-forward is limited and depends on employer policy and approvals, so a balance shown here may already have been reduced or transferred in the payroll record; confirm against your contract and the cited source.
Does leave salary apply while I am still employed?
This page models encashment of the unused balance at the end of employment, so a mid-employment cash-out is a separate policy question outside the scope shown here; confirm against your contract and the cited source.
Do public holidays or sick days reduce the annual-leave balance?
Public holidays and sick leave are separate entitlements and should not be entered as annual leave taken, otherwise the unused balance in this estimate will be understated; confirm against your contract and the cited source.
What if HR and this estimate disagree?
Differences usually come from the approved leave record, the basic-wage figure or the accrual start date, so ask HR in writing which three values they used; confirm against your contract and the cited source.
