Qatar residents can renew an existing health-card record through the official Hukoomi service. The published standard resident renewal fee is QAR 100; some categories have a different fee. Carrying a valid Qatar ID now replaces presenting a separate health card at government health facilities, but it does not remove the renewal requirement or the applicable fees.

The 2026 change: QID at the desk, renewal still required
In its 19 April 2026 notice about the Ministry of Public Health circular, Hukoomi says residents may present a valid QID instead of a health card at HMC, PHCC and other government health-sector institutions. Staff verify the person’s health number through their systems. The notice expressly says the previously approved health-card and annual renewal fees continue.
So there are two separate checks: is your QID valid, and is your health-card record current? A valid QID alone does not prove that a renewal has been paid. Conversely, losing an old plastic health card is not the same thing as an expired health record. Start by checking the record rather than following an old reprint-fee table.

QID and renewal are two different checks
Use valid identity details on the official service. If your details are rejected, resolve the issue with the provider.
Use the official expiry check. The plastic card and the system’s expiry status are not the same thing.
- Record is current
- Keep its expiry date. Present your valid QID at the government facility; do not assume a lost plastic card means you need a renewal.
- Record is expired or due for renewal
- Use Renew Health Card. Check the person, permitted duration and category fee before paying.
- No record, mismatch or unclear payment
- Ask PHCC/HMC or Hukoomi which step is needed. Do not create repeated applications or pay again without checking.
Finish with two records: the payment receipt and the updated expiry/status.

Check expiry before choosing a transaction
Hukoomi’s Check Health Card Expiry service is listed as free. Its instructions ask for the QID number to view the expiry date. Enter personal identifiers only on the official service, not in a comment, an unofficial checker or a message to this website.
If the service cannot find the record, do not assume that the person is uninsured, ineligible for care or required to buy a replacement card. Confirm the details with the responsible facility. A first-time health-card request is a different service; HMC describes the new-request route through Nar’aakom. This article is about renewing an existing record.
Published renewal fees: check the category, not just the headline
| Applicant category | Published fee | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard resident adult or child | QAR 100 | Check the selected renewal period and checkout total. |
| GCC national | QAR 50 | Do not classify every Gulf resident as a GCC national. |
| Eligible domestic staff | QAR 50 | Confirm the recognised profession/sponsorship category; this is not a discount for every employee. |
Sources: HMC’s renewal fee list and PHCC’s category guidance. PHCC describes domestic staff as personally sponsored professions approved by the Ministry of Interior. This table deliberately does not give a current Qatari-citizen fee: this guide is scoped to residents, and older general pages still contain physical-card instructions.
Budget example, not a payment quote: if two adults and one child are each in the standard QAR 100 category for the selected renewal, the three listed charges total QAR 300. Do not use that total if a different category or renewal duration applies. Hukoomi says the duration available to residents depends on their residency type and validity; check the options and final amount for the actual person.
How to renew through the official online route
- Open Hukoomi’s Request to Renew Health Card page and follow its official service link. Have a valid QID and the health-card/health-number details available if requested.
- Choose renewal of the existing record. Check the person and the renewal duration offered; do not confuse this with new registration.
- Enter the contact and receipt details requested by the service. Review the category, period and total before proceeding to its payment screen.
- Complete payment only through that official checkout and save the confirmation or receipt reference.
- Check the resulting expiry/status. If a charge appears but the status is unclear, keep the receipt and ask the official support channel before trying another payment.
HMC’s online renewal instructions describe QID entry, the renewal period, telephone details and optional receipt notifications. These are the published steps; we did not submit a real QID, make a payment or complete a personal renewal to test them. A stated service processing time is not a guarantee that every rejected or interrupted transaction will resolve immediately.
What if the old plastic card is missing?
Use the valid-QID policy and check the health record first. Some HMC/PHCC information pages still display older lost-card and physical-card wording. We have not treated those tables as proof that every resident must now pay a reprint charge. The newer government notice separates identification by QID from the continuing health-card renewal fees.
If the facility cannot retrieve the health number, ask its registration team which record needs correcting. For a health-card service question, PHCC’s Hayyak line is 107. For the Hukoomi portal, its service pages list 109 within Qatar or +974 4406 9999. Confirm current counter availability before travelling for an in-person service.
A short message for an unclear renewal
I used the health-card renewal service on [date]. I have a payment/reference receipt, but the expiry or status has not updated. Please confirm whether the renewal was completed and what action is needed before I try again.
Send any requested identifiers privately through a verified official channel. Do not post your QID, health number, receipt or banking details publicly.
What renewal does not promise
A valid health-card record supports access to subsidised public healthcare; it does not make every consultation, treatment or prescription free. PHCC and HMC both describe subsidised services with possible additional charges. Do not delay urgent medical help to complete an administrative checklist.
This guide covers Qatar’s public health-card renewal, not a UAE insurance policy or another Gulf country’s rules. For other local paperwork, browse our Qatar tools and guides or the practical guides directory. Those pages and this article do not retrieve your official health record.
Evidence note: official service descriptions and the government QID notice were checked on 19 October 2026. The QID policy notice is dated 19 April 2026. Older physical-card wording has been flagged rather than silently treated as the current process. Account-specific fees, available renewal duration and service outcomes must be confirmed in the official transaction.
