This guide explains Oman family joining visa documents in plain terms. If you already live in Oman on work residence and you want your spouse or children to join you, the file is a relationship file, a housing file, and a salary file. The authority that issues the visa is the Royal Oman Police (ROP), through the Directorate General of Passports and Residence. Gulf Expat Tools (Shekh Firoj, Qatar) publishes this as a preparation guide, not as a substitute for the live ROP or Sanad screen.
ROP decides. What you pay, which dependents qualify, and whether your job category is accepted are confirmed on ROP eVisa or at a licensed Sanad office when you file. Line the papers up with the Oman family joining visa checker in the order the file is usually read: sponsor identity, relationship, salary, housing, then each dependent.
Who the family joining visa is for
ROP’s public visa-types page describes the family joining visa as a permit granted to an expatriate employee’s spouse and children below 21 years. It is also described as available, on a different track, to a foreign wife of an Omani citizen at his request, with a Ministry of Interior certificate validating the marriage.
The same page says the visa is valid for two years from the date it is stamped in the holder’s passport, and that it is a multi-entry visa. Those are the public rules as written, not a promise of approval. The eVisa instructions state that the Directorate General of Passports and Residence has the right to reject an application without declaring a reason.
The eVisa instructions say family joining visa applications are accepted only for children below 21 years old. Ask ROP or Sanad before attesting papers for anyone outside that group.
The salary figure is not settled in public sources
Public reporting on the sponsor salary threshold conflicts, and this article will not pick a winner.
ROP’s own visa-types page still lists that the expatriate sponsor is paid a monthly salary of not less than RO 600 and holds a senior job according to GCC standards. That is a named official page. It is also a public web page, not the payment screen you will see when you file.
Other public reporting has described lower historical figures, including OMR 300, and some 2023 press cited OMR 150. Consultants often still quote the higher figure. Those statements cannot all be true at once for every category.
Confirm the live rule for your job title on ROP eVisa or at Sanad. If the portal asks for a salary certificate plus bank credits, bring both. If your category is not treated as eligible, a perfect marriage certificate will not rescue the file.
Documents ROP lists on the public page
ROP’s family joining visa page tells you to apply on the electronic form on the ROP website, signed by the employer or an authorised signatory, typed in Arabic for Arab nationals and in English for non-Arabs.
| Item | What the public ROP page asks for |
|---|---|
| Photos | Two photographs, 6 × 4 cm |
| Passport | Copy valid for not less than six months. ROP also warns that passport validity extensions are not acceptable |
| Company signatory | Specimen signature sheet of authorised signatories, for the private sector |
| Medical certificate | Original and copy approved by the Ministry of Health, for adults coming from countries listed on the ROP page |
| Salary proof | A Ministry of Manpower form showing job title and salary, or a bank statement of monthly salary transfers for not less than six months |
| Marriage | Copy authenticated by Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the foreign employee wants to bring a spouse |
| Housing | Copy of the residential lease or a document confirming the place of residence |
| Omani citizen track | Ministry of Interior approval, authenticated marriage certificate, and a copy of the valid identity card |
Birth certificates for children sit next to the marriage certificate. Attest them in the country of issue, then complete Oman MOFA authentication, then keep an Arabic translation if the original is not in Arabic.
Your residence card is not decorative. Officers need to see that the sponsor is a current resident. Carry the card, a clear copy, and the residence visa page. The eVisa notes also say applicants should be in the Sultanate to renew residence permits.
Health insurance for dependents is often requested at Sanad or later residence steps, but it is not a numbered line on the visa-types page. Ask the filing office when it is required.
Attestation, fees and a file that is ready to check
A foreign marriage or birth certificate needs the home-country chain first, then Oman MOFA authentication, as ROP’s page requires for the marriage certificate. Names must match across passport, marriage record and birth record. Keep scans complete and unlaminated.
The public visa-types page currently lists a fee line of thirty (30) and a delay fine of 50 for late renewal or registration of the residence permit. It does not publish a complete live tariff. Treat that line as a published fragment, not as your invoice. Pay only on the official ROP flow or at a licensed Sanad office.
Example: Aisha holds a valid Oman residence card and works in the private sector. She wants her husband and their eight-year-old child to join her. Before she opens the eVisa form she gathers her passport and residence card, the company’s authorised-signatory sheet, a labour form showing job title and salary, six months of salary credits, the tenancy in her name, the attested marriage certificate, the attested birth certificate, passports with more than six months’ validity, photographs, and the medical certificate the page requires for her husband’s nationality. She then files on eVisa or through Sanad and asks two questions: what salary rule applies to her job category today, and what amount will be charged today.
A joining visa is not the end of the story. Dependents still need the residence process ROP applies after entry, including medical fitness where required and card issuance. The eVisa notes, citing Article (16) of the Implementing Regulation of the Foreigners’ Residence Law, also state that a valid entry visa does not necessarily mean the holder will be allowed to enter the Sultanate.

The Royal Oman Police, through the Directorate General of Passports and Residence. The eVisa instructions state that the Directorate may reject an application without declaring a reason.
What salary do I need to sponsor my family?
Public sources conflict. ROP’s visa-types page still lists a monthly salary of not less than RO 600 and a senior job according to GCC standards. Other reporting has cited OMR 300 and, in some 2023 press, OMR 150. Do not pick one number as official. Confirm on ROP eVisa or at Sanad for your category.
Which documents should I prepare first?
Sponsor residence card and passport, attested marriage certificate for a spouse, attested birth certificates for children under 21, salary proof, and housing evidence. Add photographs, medical certificates where the page lists your nationality, and insurance if the filing office asks for it.

The eVisa instructions say family joining visa applications are accepted only for children below 21 years old. Ask ROP or Sanad about any other route before you spend money on attestation.
